Caution when asserting claims outside Liechtenstein.

The national rules of civil procedure often allow a plaintiff to assert claims against a defendant not only at the defendant’s domicile (general rule of jurisdiction), but also at the plaintiff’s domicile or place of residence or other places. The jurisdiction of courts in different countries can often be established. In such a case, there is a risk that the plaintiff will conduct proceedings and obtain a judgment which he will subsequently not be able to enforce against the defendant at all or only with considerable difficulty. Particularly in the relationship between Liechtenstein and Austria, there are considerable restrictions on the recognition and enforcement of foreign judgments.
